The main terms of the Versailles Treaty were:
- The surrender of German colonies — Areas conquered by the Axis would go to Belgium, France, Lithuania, Poland, and Czechoslovakia
- Demilitarization and a fifteen-year occupation of the Rhineland
- Germans must pay reparations of £6,600 billion
- The forbidden union of Germany and Austria
- Germany accepting guilt for causing the war
- War leaders including the Kaiser must go on trial
- Germany’s army must not have more than 100,000 men
- Germany’s army was to have no tanks, no heavy artillery, no poison-gas supplies, no aircraft and no airships
- The German navy was also limited in how many battleships, cruisers, destroyers, and torpedo boats it was allowed to have
- Germany was forbidden submarines
