The Road Not Taken   Poetic Devices

  • Four, five-line stanzas with an ABAAB rhyme scheme
  • Line 1 – imagery: yellow wood (creating an image for the
    reader)
  • Line 1 (and poem) – symbolism: the road can be symbolic of
    life and the choices one must make.
  • Yellow: could also indicate fall or cowardly feelings
  • Lines 7&8 – personification: make the road seem human in
    its desires
  • Line 8 – alliteration: “wanted wear”
