  1. Welcome to your first day of Anatomy and Physiology!
  2. Look over this assignment for a year long portfolio project.  You will be assigned parts of this portfolio throughout the year.
  3. Today work on the introduction.  Include why you are taking this course, what you hope to learn, careers or interests related to this field, etc.

Day 2

  1. Read over the introduction, essential questions and key terms for the first unit “Structure and Function of the Human Body”
  2. Make flash cards or a vocabulary sheet for half the key terms.  You will need to practice these each day of the unit.
  3. Continue to work on or complete your introduction to your portfolio project.

  1. Finish making flashcards or a vocabulary sheet for the key terms.  You will practice these each day of the unit.

Day 19

  1. Read over page 3 on The Physiology of Cellular Metabolism.  Stop before the second video.
  2. Draw a chart/diagram like you saw in the video.  Take notes to help remember the process.
  3. Play the Incredible Megacell game.

Day 20

  1. Watch the second video on page 3 about cellular respiration.  Read until you get to the Sodium Potassium Pump.

  3. This video discusses the different types of tissues.
  4. Work on this tissue project/lesson over the next 4 days.  Create a histology presentation (on paper, powerpoint, or another format your parent/teacher agrees with).  The presentation should have a page for each of the following 12 tissue types.  Each page should have a picture/image and a short (3 sentence) paragraph describing the shape of cell, the functions of the tissue, and explain how the shape of the cell contributes to the function of the tissue.  You can use this site to find the images.

Day 32-33

  1. You are going to read an article about one of the following topics:  HeLa Cells, Mitochondrial Disease, Sickle Cell). Before reading the article, list what you know about the topic before reading the article. Then, read the article on that topic.

  2. Write a report on the article.  Document where you pulled your article from by copy and pasting the url to the top of your assignment and give the title of the article. Write a short paragraph introducing the article and why you chose that topic.  Include some of the information you knew prior to reading the article.
  3. Summarize the main idea of the article.  Evaluate the information in the article.  Where did the facts come from?  Look up some background on two or three of the sources cited (people, companies, etc) and explain what you find.
  4. What questions do you still have or what do you want to know more about?  Where could you go to find more information?  (Use safe search sources!)  Cite additional sources used at the end of your paper.
  5. This research activity is worth 5 points.
