Heat and Energy

Heat – thermal energy that is transferring from one object or substance to another

Temperature – a measure of the average kinetic energy of the particles in a substance

Specific heat – the amount of heat energy that must be added to it in order to increase its temperature by 1 degree or the heat capacity of a material per unit mass

Thermal expansion – a consequence of the change in the average separation between its constituent atoms or molecules

Endothermic process – a process that absorbs heat as it occurs

Exothermic process – a process that releases energy from the system as it occurs

Kinetic Energy – energy of motion

Potential Energy – stored energy or energy of position
