Poetry Notebook Project

Multi-Media Poetry Notebook Project

For this project, you will put together a virtual “notebook” of sorts.  You will compile
poems that you find and a few poems of your own, and then you will analyze those
poems.  This notebook will demonstrate your knowledge of the poetic terms we’ve
discussed, as well as your ability to understand poetry as a whole.

  1. Section One:  Borrowed Poems
    1. For this section, you will locate THREE poems from various sources and authors.
    2. Each poem must be from a different author.  These can be about any topic.
    3. ONE poem per page.
    4. For each poem:
      1. Type the poem on the page.
      2. In paragraph form, give the overall theme of the poem and your thoughts on the poem.  Explain the overall meaning and any interesting details you may have found.
      3. In list form, list the poetic devices/figurative!language you found in the poem.  Give the device name, and then the example.
      4. Insert graphics – You should find a graphic you think best represents the poem on the page.  Remember to give credit to the artist/photographer of the graphic! (see MLA rules for citing photos)
  2. Section Two: Original Poems
    1. For this section, you will compose TWO ORIGINAL poems.  These must be your original poems.
      1. One of your poems should deal with a topic similar to the poems we read in this unit.  (ex. Childhood memories, parks, playgrounds, etc.).
      2. The other poem can be about any topic.
    2. ONE poem per page.
    3. For each poem:
      1. Type the poem on the page
      2. In paragraph form, give your overall goals of the poem (theme, inspiration, etc), as well as any interesting details.
      3. In list form, list the poetic devices/figurative language used in the poem.  Give the device name, and then the example.
      4. Insert graphics – You should find a graphic you think best represents the
poem on the page.  Remember to give credit to the artist/photographer of the graphic (see MLA rules for citing photos).
  3. Section Three: Poetry Glossary
    1. For this section, you will create a glossary of poetic terms.  You should have at least 15 terms for this.
      1. Seven (7) terms can come from our course.
      2. Eight (8) terms should be found elsewhere.
    2. You may put multiple terms on pages for this section.
    3. For each term:
      1. Type the term and the definition
      2. Give an example of the term
  4. Presentation Options:
    1. You have several options for the format for this project.
      1. PowerPoint – create a slideshow, insert pictures, and record narration.
      2. Prezi – This is an online presentation tool that allows you to create more detailed presentations.  Check it out using the following link:  http://prezi.com/learn/
      3. Yola – This is a free website hosting service.  You could create a free website.
