In compounds, the components are chemically combined while in mixtures the components are only physically combined. Solutions are mixtures because the components are NOT chemically combined.
Fill in the blanks and then highlight the paragraph to reveal the answers.
Solutions are homogeneous mixtures made up of very small particles that are actually molecules, atoms, or ions. Solutions are said to be in a single phase even though the components may have been in different phases before the solution was formed.
Pure gold is 24 carat. 14-carat gold contains 14 parts gold and 10 parts other metals. 14-carat gold is said to be a(n) alloy, which is a type of solid solution.
An example of a gaseous solution is air, which is made up mostly of oxygen and nitrogen when dry. The most common solutions are liquid solutions.
Because of the Tyndall effect, you can see the light beams from car headlights in a fog.
